maxtor computer OneTouch4 USB not seen in My Computer

I’m working with a Compaq 6410nx pc running XP SP2. We purchased a 500gb maxtor computer OneTouch4 external USB disk drives to backup the system. When we plug in the disk drive, we hear the tones My maxtor computer associated with a new device being detected, but see no pop-ups that visually indicate that a new hardware has been detected. We have taken this drive and plugged it into other machines and it is discovered immediatey and asigned an available drive letter and is visible in My maxtor computer.
I have removed all the USB hub and mass storage entries under the USB Controller section in Device Manager and let the USB sections rebuild themselves.Upon looking in My maxtor computer, there is no drive letter associated with the new device. When I look in Disk Manager, I can see the device and it is indicated that the device is active and healthy. I have plugged in a Digital camera and a maxtor computer 512mb flash drive and both were assigned drive letters and were visible under. When I try to add new hardware through the control panel, If I reboot the machine, the assignment goes away and I am still sitting with a drive with an unassigned drive letter.
Just no Drive letter assigned to it. If I go and assign a drive letter to it, it does appear to be available in the drop downs and the maxtor computer backup progam can detect the device and run the backups, I get an error message though that indicates that another install is going on and I can’t search while that is running. Getting frustrated at this point and would appreciate any advice you could give me. Thanks for you time and help yet it is still not available under My maxtor computer.

maxtor computer problem

We had no maxtor computer problem activating these features, but when some of them didn’t work (the drive couldn’t be found when we attempted to access it from the Web, for example, and a printer wouldn’t print when we connected it to the drive), maxtor computer we couldn’t figure out how to set up the features properly when referring to the documentation. Worse, neither maxtor computer ’s nor parent company Seagate’s support sites offered troubleshooting help. Advanced users who understand NAS drives or networking will be able to solve the problems on their own, but home users—the device’s target audience—will certainly have maxtor computer trouble.
After we fixed the issue with Web server access (it involved manually opening a port on our router, which maxtor computer ’s user guides do not mention or show you how to do), we were able to access the drive over the Internet through Seagate’s Global Access Web interface.
It’s easy: maxtor computer Set up an account at globalaccess.seagate.com, pair it with the drive, and you’re up and running in no time. There are public folders anyone can access and private folders for individual account holders, and you can share folders with others by sending them an e-mail with a link. A 29MB maxtor computer file took 16 minutes and 15 seconds to download—but it required just 6 minutes and 36 seconds to upload the same file back to the device.

maxtor computer Central

In our read/write test, the maxtor computer Central Axis fell in line with the LaCie Ethernet Disk mini, which is slightly slow. It took maxtor computer a little more than 33 minutes to write a 10GB file and slightly less—25 minutes and 23 seconds—to read it. If you are concerned about speed, you may want to look elsewhere. But for most consumers, we think the features and ease-of-use are worth the sacrifice in performance.
If you want a NAS drive to back up maxtor computer on a local network and share media files, the Central Axis Network Storage Server is an excellent, affordable solution that’s easy to set up and use, albeit with some forfeit in performance. But if you plan to use advanced features like maxtor computer Web access and media sharing, Other Thoughts: First off, do not under any circumstance put files on the drive if the software version is 3.4 (you can see the version number in web access at the bottom right). The drive resets itself on every power cycle, which I found out the hard way. be aware that you may encounter some problems due to insufficient maxtor computer documentation and help resources.

Inside is a single terabyte, 7,200rpm hard drive with a 16MB cache. The drive, which uses maxtor computer ’s new Central Axis software, lets you back up your computers on a local network, share media files, and access files on the drive remotely.
The drive operates silently, but because it’s a fanless unit, it gets hot to the touch.
Installation of the Central Axis is a breeze. The maxtor computer Central Axis Network Storage Server is a 1TB network-attached storage (NAS) device that’s easy to use and set up.

using maxtor computer

One feature we really liked using maxtor computer
was Drag and Sort—when you transfer a file to the drive, it automatically gets placed into the designated folder. Drop in a JPEG file, for example, and the drive will place it in the My Photos (user account) or Our Photos (public account) folder. Cons: maxtor computer
Additional drive using USB port must be formatted in FAT32, which is horrendous if you have large files (over 4GB). Shipping software is the buggiest version for any drive maxtor computer
or Seagate has ever released.
Gigabit LAN, remote access (not necessarily through Seagate, see Other Thoughts), maxtor computer
of storage for a reasonable price, nice external case, USB port for expanding storage if necessary, print server built in using USB port, included maxtor computer
drive manager is not needed for anything at all.
Seagate’s support site put out an updated software version which has been rock solid since installing a couple months ago, so make sure the first thing you do is install version 3.5 from their site.
You can try to set up Web Access through Seagate’s site, and if it works for
If all you want to do is share files on a network and set up basic backup of computers, the setup process lets you achieve that. But when you decide to enable some of the more advanced features, maxtor computer
doesn’t go far enough in providing the instructions or wizards to help you properly activate those features. Some of the coolest advanced features include remote Web access, media sharing to Universal Plug and Play and Digital Living Network Alliance (DLNA) devices, and maxtor computer
compatibility. The USB port lets you attach a printer or an external drive to increase storage capacity or back up the Central Axis drive to an external hard drive via USB.

The maxtor computer Central Axis Network

It doesn’t have the fastest file-transfer speeds, but home users will appreciate its features and its large capacity for the price. you can also add maxtor computer additional users. After installing the Central Axis software, our computers easily found the device on the network. The Central Axis software lets you enable backup, restoration, media serving, as well as Web access and sharing; With similar dimensions and case design as maxtor computer ’s One Touch 4 Plus external hard drive, the Central Axis is a compact box that stands upright and doesn’t take up much room.
The Central Axis can also launch a Web-based interface where you can manage settings, users, and folders. The software and Web interface may not be as in-depth as some advanced users might like, and backup functionality is rudimentary, but casual home users who need something easy to navigate and use will find that maxtor computer does the job. One issue we encountered was that the Web interface wasn’t in sync with the software: maxtor computer includes a helpful quick-start guide that describes the basic setup. In both our PC and Mac setups, we had no trouble dropping the device into either of our local networks. After we deleted a maxtor computer user account through the user management function in the Web interface, the deleted user account still appeared in the application.
